Currently for Professional Wellness Services there are a range of Corporate Workshops to choose from, which can be useful for a Company of any size or market. These workshops run close to 40 minutes and can be modified to meet any of your personal time restrictions. After each workshop I will be available for 30 minutes to answer any additional questions and provide any necessary individual counsel. 1. How to read food labels to make healthy choices.
Making healthy food choices is difficult for many people, as they don’t know how to use the nutrition facts panel to their advantage. This class will teach you all the important terminology and information regarding food labeling so your next shopping trip is a lot less stressful.
2. Including fibre rich foods in daily living.
As a Nutritionist, I believe that everyone can and should increase their fibre intake to promote better health and prevent many chronic diseases. The average Canadian consumes only half of the required daily amount of fibre and this class will teach you how to incorporate a higher percentage of fibre into your daily lifestyle.
3. The sugar debate. Natural vs. Artificial
Sweeteners, aspartame, raw sugar, and nectar are a mere few of the many sugar substitutes that fill the baking aisle at the grocery store these days. Which ones are healthy, calorie-free, toxic, and a waste of money? This session will teach you how to cook, bake, and eat your favorite sweets worry free and maybe even with fewer calories!
4. Fats & oils. Eat, heat, or avoid.
Fact: When certain oils are heated to a high temperature, as in sautéing for example, they can become carcinogenic, – meaning the average household may need to re-evaluate how to prepare meals. Take this class to learn about cooking oils including how their compounds change in cooking and storing, and how to choose the healthiest oil for your family.
5. Following your doctor’s orders to reduce sodium and cholesterol.
According to information published in 2009 nearly half of all Canadian adult’s have high cholesterol. Have you been advised by your doctor to lower your cholesterol intake, possibly your sodium (salt) intake as well? Or is your blood pressure higher than the healthy range? Learn healthier ways to effectively lower these values and modify your lifestyle for improved longevity.
6. Superfoods, what are they?
Superfood is a common buzzword in the news these days and is an effective tool in food marketing. Superfood is a title given to any item of food, which is nutrient dense and provides a nutritional bonus for many individuals. Some are foods that we all know and recognize like almonds, while others are less commonly known like chia seeds. In this session you will learn how to evaluate the latest Superfoods and choose which food trends you would like to take part in.
7. Restaurant Food
Excuse me Waiter, does delicious mean nutritious? This workshop will give you the tools to order tasty and Nutritiously sound meals for any and every occasion from a business lunch to a celebratory dinner out!
8. Grains Galore!
Did you know that the Canada Food Guide recommends adults consume 6-8 servings of grains a day? Are you eating too little, too much, or the right kind of grains? Learning the benefits of healthy whole grains and how to incorporate them into your daily diet can benefit your health in many ways by supplying your body with essential nutrients primarily found in these products.
9. Disease Prevention
Is your family medical history littered with any of those scary words like Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Cancer? Or are you convinced you are too healthy to get sick with any illness? There are many behaviors and food choices people make that may unknowingly hinder your health. Learn how to make lifestyle modifications to your nutrition habits to strive towards preventing these diseases.
